I'm always concerned about getting my car repaired because I am a single woman and many mechanics have taken advantage of me in the past. I had a car that was only 2 years old when the AC died in July of 2014 so I figured it was something very minor. I took it to two mechanics who both told me that the compressor would need to be replaced and quoted me a minimum of $1000. I found a 3rd mechanic who did it for $500 since I purchased the compressor but just 6 weeks later the a/c was not working again!! I was livid and I continued to take it back to the mechanic 3 times over the next month before he advised me that the compressor I had purchased was faulty and he would have to take it out and have me go exchange it then bring a new one back and get it installed. By this time it was winter and I had a 1 year warranty on the compressor so I decided to wait until February to go through all of those steps. In February when it was time I decided to get one last "second opinion" I searched for a free a/c check on Google and came up with Scott's. I was ecstatic that they were right near my house. I scheduled the service right online and went in on a Saturday Morning. The facility is nice, they have coffee, a big screen tv, a couch, and wifi with the password posted in case you need to work while you wait. I dealt with Don who was so friendly and knowledgeable, I dropped my car off and expected to wait all day. I got a call back in less than 2 hours from the owner stating that they cold not fix it but that the compressor was not the problem. I proceeded to return to their shop and got a detailed explanation about what they found. It turns out my compressor was never bad in the first place, but the first 3 mechanics either didn't know or didn't care to check everything. The problem was a very small connector, which they told me they did not have in stock, but that the part was so cheap that if I could find one they would fix the a/c for free. I looked high and low and could not find the part at the dealer, a junk yard, or online. I finally ordered the part for my year make and model but it was on back-order and I called Scott's 3 weeks later when it arrived. Again Don was very friendly and honored his offer for me to get the repair done at no cost, he told me to bring the car the following Saturday. Long story short it was the wrong part and my 7 month nightmare looked as if it would never end. I was so dreading the return of 100 degree temperatures! I found out that my manufacturer does not sell the part that I needed individually and that really only Ford, Audi, and one other automaker do. I spoke to Scott and he said that the mechanic suggested an alternative that would only cost $140. I returned the following week and had it fixed and over a month later my A/c is perfect and ice cold. My only con is that I was not advised that there would be no warranty on the alternative fix. I found out 2 days later when I read the receipt, but thankfully I haven't needed it. The staff at Scott's was friendly, professional, fast, and honest and those qualities are GOLDEN in auto- repair. I don't think I'll be taking my car anywhere else for a long time to come.
